Abby is my roommate but also a star freshmen on the UNE volleyball team. I think she would be an interesting subject for a profile because not only is she a key player on our team as a first-year, but she is also from Texas and has had a lot of interesting experiences. Athletics are a lot bigger in Texas, and she has experienced many outstanding teams in her career, and is an outstanding player herself.
2. Ian Blanchard
Ian is the head coach of the UNE volleyball team. He would make an interesting subject because for many years he coached D1 volleyball, played D1 volleyball himself, and has seen all there is to see in the volleyball world. He would have a lot to discuss regarding his time as a coach and as a player.
3. Morgan DaSilva
Morgan is one of the athletic trainers here at UNE. She has worked with many different athletes and seen every side of sports there is to see. She would make an interesting subject because of her experiences, and sharing how much she does for the athletics department is important to me.
1. Emma Burke: UNE Student-Athlete Mental Performance Coach
I think Emma would be an interesting profile subject because we often associate sports with an athlete’s physical abilities—practicing, training, and competing—while overlooking the mental strength required to succeed. This profile on Emma would explore not only her personal story and background, but also what a sports performance coach does and why that role is so crucial in an athlete’s journey. It would give insight into her character and personality, while also highlighting activities and resources available for student-athletes at UNE through her experiences.
2. Kyle Relf: Athletics Communications Specialist
I think Kyle would be an interesting profile subject because of the broad scope of his role. I’ve worked with Kyle on many occasions as an Athletic Events Assistant, and I’ve seen firsthand that his job goes far beyond typical computer-based communications. As a communications specialist, he coordinates with outside broadcasters and opponent universities, but he also needs in-depth knowledge of every varsity sport at UNE. He manages events from the press box, from setting up broadcasts, to handling statistics, overseeing the scoreboard and cameras, and supervising event setup and breakdown. In terms of beat reporting, Kyle’s work is the opposite—he’s managing everything behind the scenes. The range of his responsibilities is fascinating, and I’m curious about how he manages it all and what drew him to this career path.
3. Patty Williams: Associate Director of Athletics for Club & Intramural Sports / Senior Woman Administrator
I think Patty would be an interesting profile subject because, like Kyle, she needs an extensive understanding of sports, but in a different way. Patty oversees all 23 club sports at UNE, which range from smaller versions of varsity sports to entirely unique offerings. Unlike varsity sports, which are run by professional coaches and staff, club sports are student-led, so Patty manages budgeting, schedules, and competitions for all of them. She is also the Director of Intramural Sports, overseeing 20 additional sports with their own rules, scheduling, and setup. The combination of these responsibilities makes her role complex and fascinating, and her story about navigating this “organized chaos” and why she chose this career would be compelling to share. I also think her achieved title of “Senior Woman Administrator” is powerful, and would be an added novelty to a sports profile story.
1. Emma Burke – Emma Burke is the only Student Athlete Mental Health Performance Coach. I wasn’t even aware that UNE had one until looking through the Staff Directory page on UNE’s Atheltics Website. I find it very helpful to have a designed person that helps coach student athletics through their personal problems. I think it would be an interesting profile piece considering she is the only coach in this category. I also believe she deseveres some recgoniztion for all the students and their issues she help them cope with enough to maintain a great athletic performance. With this, I can interview student athletes she has helped in the past.
2. Anthony Ewing – Anthony Ewing is the Head Coach of the Women’s Basketball Team. The reason I have him listed as my second option is because I am very knowledgable on the sport and it is my favorite! So I’d be interested to speak with the Coach of the Women’s team as the Women’s Basketball Team needs more recongition.
3. Cassandra Sherman – Cassandra Sherman is the Head Coach of the Women’s Ice Hockey Team. I’d like to focus towards a Women’s sports team for this profile piece if I am going to be assigned a Coach. The Ice Hockey Coach would be an interesting profile because I know the Women’s Team have great stats!
Dawn Dewees-Moss
Dawn is a UNE field hockey alumni who graduated last year and has since come back as an assistant coach. Dawn was an incredible goal keeper for UNEFH and was the starting goalie her junior and senior year, leading UNEFH to semis and the cne championship her senior year. She studied exercise science and is currently a PA student here at UNE, while still staying very involved in the UNE athletics community. It would be interesting to learn about her transition from student athlete to student coach.
Morgan Dasilva
Morgan is an athletic trainer here at UNE who works with several teams here on campus including field hockey (my team), volleyball, mens lax and more. Morgan earned her bachelors and masters degrees here at UNE and has worked here since she graduated in 2020. She is a beloved member of the UNE athletics community who is always welcoming, kind, and good at what she does. Morgan would be a great profile because of her broad experiences and medical perspective.
Lyndie Kelley
Known as Coach K to her athletes, Lyndie is the director of strength and conditioning here at UNE. She is also a UNE alum and earned her bachelors in applied exercise science and her masters degree in nutrition, both from UNE. Coach K has served in almost every role of the UNE athletics community from student athlete, to assistant coach, to director of strength and conditioning. Coach K would also be a very interesting profile and I would explore her climb from student athlete to everything she accomplished, along with what drew her to come back to UNE.
Ed Silva- Ed Silva is the UNE mens basketball coach at UNE. I think Coach Silva would be interesting profile to discuss because he has been to many different schools before being at UNE. Coach has a ton of great stories and experiences to share with the world and I think it would be cool to hear about his coaching experience and how it has had an impact on his life.
Coach Corrine – Corrine is the UNE weight lifting trainer in the UNE alfond forum weight room. She has been at division 1 schools before her time at UNE. She is a very passionate trainer and trains many different teams, and I think it would be cool to hear about her perspective about training different teams. What are the challenges of being a trainer and what she loves most about being a trainer.
Kasey Keenan – Coach Keenan is the UNE mens golf coach at UNE. He has been the coach for the UNE golf team for many years, so he definitely has plenty of cool experiences to share about his golf coaching experience. Golf is a difficult sport to coach so I would ask what makes coaching golf then other coaching positions and what does he enjoy most about being a golf coach.
1. Max Knight
I chose Max because he is a former teammate and still a student here. I chose him because I am interested in knowing what it is like for him to still be on campus and no longer be an athlete and what mental toll has that taken.
2. Derek Diaz
I chose Derek because he has been my teammate since my freshman year and he doesn’t always get the opportunity to play but is constantly a good teammate and always cheers on our team. He also is from Miami Florida and his journey is different from the rest of us.
3. Winston Bryan
I chose him because he was my senior captain my freshman year. I am now a senior and he is now been graduated for a couples years and I think it would be cool to see how life after being a college athlete has been and how he got through the initial identity crisis as an athlete.
1. Connor Blake
Connor Blake is the Director, Center for Sport and Business Innovation at UNE. I have a class with Connor and he is very knowledgeable about sports and I think that his background in sports would be something cool to dive into. I have also done an interview with Connor in the past and it was easy to communicate and work with him.
2. Patty Williams
Patty Williams is the Associate Director of Athletics for Club & Intramural Sports / Senior Woman Administrator. Patty has a wide knowledge of different sports and has helped to organize many sporting events throughout her time here at UNE
3. Ray James
Ray is a Junior on the UNE basketball team. He comes up from Washington DC to play basketball here. He has a lot of experience playing and watching basketball and I think he would be an interesting person to interview because of the many stories he has.
Mat Romano- Mat is an athletic trainer for UNE sports and its his first year at the school. From what I have seen, he already fits in with the staff and players very well, forming great relationships, and putting forward thoughtful care for athletes. He is someone I would like to know more about, especially how he feels being in his first year at UNE.
Trevor Therrien- Coach Trevor Therrien has been with the UNE football program as a player or coach since the start of the program 7 years ago. It would be cool to get his perspective on how the UNE football program has grown over the years and highlight his impact on the program.
Alex Yeaton- Alex is my roommate and teammate on the football team. He is in the midst of a breakout season, getting his first varsity action and playing very well. I could highlight his preparation for the season and what he contributes to his early success in his first few starts of his career.
Coach Cads is new to UNE Football this year as one of the specialist coaches. He is a recent graduate of the University of Maine where he was a starting punter for the Black Bears. He brings lots of interesting experiences to the staff and wants to give back to specialists in Maine where he now lives.
2. Sam Lenson
Coach Lenson is not new to the UNE Football staff but is also one of the specialist coaches. He has been around UNE for many years now and teaches in South Portland. Lenson works with a wide variety of specialists and teams around New England and has made a huge impact on many programs.
3. Henry Osmer
Henry is a sophomore student and assistant coach for the men’s soccer team here at UNE. He started off his freshman year playing on the team and has now transitioned into coaching for his sophomore year. It is a super interesting dynamic and I think he would be a good candidate for a profile.
1. Mike Lichten
Coach Lichten is the head coach of UNE Football and the only coach in the program’s history. Under his leadership, the team is off to its best start ever and is on pace for the most successful season in school history. His experience and commitment have been central to building the program from the ground up.
2. Kimman Power
Kimman is a junior member of the UNE men’s basketball team and also serves as an RA on campus. He balances academics, athletics, and leadership responsibilities, setting a great example for other students. His involvement across campus makes him a strong representative of UNE’s student community.
3. Alberto Zepeda
Alberto is a senior wide receiver from Denver, Colorado, and is currently having his best season as a member of the UNE football team. His work ethic and leadership have made a big impact on the field. He’s also one of my best friends, which makes his success even more meaningful to see.
